SUNDAY SCHOOL AND CHILD CARE

Children are a heritage from the Lord and a gift...  Psalm 127:4

Our parishioners have made a serious commitment to the education of the young members of our community of faith.  We are very happy to share our love of Jesus Christ with you and your children.

We begin each Sunday at 9:45 AM in Children's Chapel where the children give thanksgiving and praise to God while learning to navigate the Book of Common Prayer and the essentials of the Episcopal liturgy.

Following Children's Chapel, the children receive classroom instruction with our wonderful and dedicated staff of volunteer teachers using the Living the Good News, a lectionary based curriculum.

We have 110 members of the parish under the age of 16

After classes, all the children, except for those who parents may choose to have them remain in Child Care, join their families (at The Peace) for the rest of the Eucharist service and to receive communion.

At least one Sunday a month the children attend the entire Eucharist service with their families rather than Sunday School.  At these services, the children minister in church by ushering, reading the lessons and Prayers of the People, presenting the elements and the offering.

Though each week in the classroom may be somewhat different, generally, the children participate in the following activities.

Three-year old to Kindergarten class: children join in a song or prayer, followed by an art project based on the Scripture lessons of the day.

Grades 1 and 2: children may do a skit or a prayer than work on an art project to reinforce the Scripture lessons of the day.

Grades 3, 4 and 5: children concentrate on prayer and Bible study interspersed with art projects.

Grades 6 and up: Children concentrate on prayer, Bible study, special craft projects, and outreach projects. [back to top]

Mary, Joseph, angels, donkeys, camels, shepherds, sheep, et al prepare for the annual Christmas pageant held during the 4 and 7 PM Christmas Eve Eucharist services.

CHILD CARE - Infant to 2 Years Old

All children, regardless of age, are welcome to attend our services.  However, on those days when the parent and/or child may prefer it, we have excellent child care facilities.  Our child care facilities are run as a co-op in which parents serve on a rotating basis. [back to top]

The Rector and all parishioners reach out to even our youngest members.

Our children begin every Sunday school year with a parish picnic and end the year with a parish breakfast.
